Along with its announcement about an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! at the 2013 North American Auto Show in Detroit, Subaru finally made public that they'd be welcoming back one of their former star drivers to the Subaru Rally Team USA. That driver is non-other than X Games phenom Travis Pastrana.
Always a fan favorite, the 30-year old Pastrana has already won four Rally America Championships in his previous tenure with the Subaru Rally Team USA. His replacement, David Higgins, has captured the past three Rally America Championships and is on track to tie Pastrana in 2014 for total Championship wins. That is, unless Pastrana can come out on top this year.

Diggins arguably already has Pastrana beat on championships, having won the SCCA ProRally championship (the US national championship prior to Rally America) in 2002 and 2003. Either way it'll be an exciting battle between the two this year.

I wish Subaru would get back into the WRC but it will probably never happen with the newer engine regulations. If they did maybe Solberg would rejoin the team.

The cars are faster and the drivers are faster than they were when Pastrana left for greener pastures in NASCARland. I'm glad to see him back as he's a tidy driver, but he's going to have a steep learning curve to catch up with Higgins.
Looking forward to seeing it!

Good to see Subaru is still serious about its stage rally efforts. I had heard somewhere Subaru was pulling its support for Rally America to focus more on GRC but glad to see that's not the case.

So does he still have the Dodge deal for GRC?

That deal officially ended last November. So, no, he's no longer tied to Dodge. We updated the story on our main site to include that, in addition to his Rally America events, he will be driving for Subaru Rallycross Team at the 2014 X Games in Austin, Texas.

You nailed it. 1.6L engine requirements and the elimination of the minimum wheelbase pretty much guarantee they won't be back unless the rules change.

I will be glad to see his name back on the trailers as they build these cars just a few miles up the road.
